Choosing the Correct Care
When health care is needed, don’t let the decision of what type of care hinder your health. To help aid in the decision-making process, we’ve compiled a comprehensive overview of services available through our Primary Care Providers, Emergency Department, and Walk-in Clinic.
Preparation is Key
Before you’re faced with a threatening or non-threatening situation, it’s important to make sure you are always carrying your health insurance card and ID with you. Additionally, be sure to save the following numbers in your cell phone:
- Your Primary Care Provider
- Your child’s Pediatrician
- The closest Emergency Department
- Urgent Care Clinic
- Walk-in Clinic
Primary Care Provider
Your primary care provider (PCP) is a valuable resource for keeping you healthy. Regular appointments with the same provider help the provider establish an overall picture of your health. A PCP can assist with illnesses and/or ongoing medical conditions. Below is a listing of care Primary Care Providers can provide to patients:
- Annual health screenings
- Preventive care
- Treatment of common illnesses
- Immunizations
- Management of chronic conditions
- A referral to a medical specialist

Emergency Department
There is no hard and fast rule as to when you should seek emergency medical services; however, there are some situations where the emergency room is the appropriate place to go. Generally, visits to the ED should be reserved only for matters of life or limb, or systemic illnesses or conditions. Symptoms warranting an ED visit can include:
- Severe breathing problems or shortness of breath, including choking
- Persistent pain or pressure in the chest, left arm, or left jaw
- Severe burns and cuts (i.e., cuts that won’t close or stop bleeding)
- Seizures
- Severe allergic reactions
- Stroke symptoms, including slurred speech, sudden numbness or weakness in any part of the body, facial drooping, or sudden loss of balance or vision
- Sudden confusion or dizziness
- Loss of consciousness
- Traumatic injuries or possible broken bones
- Vaginal bleeding if pregnant or bleeding through more than one pad per hour for several hours in a row accompanied by symptoms of lightheadedness or dizziness, weakness, shortness of breath, or chest pain
Walk-In Clinics
The Culbertson Walk-in Clinic provides basic healthcare services for non-emergency situations. It is ideal for situations in which you cannot see your primary care provider right away and you don’t want to wait for an appointment. The Walk-in Clinic offers extended hours of operation to better accommodate patients.
The following are commonly treated at walk-in clinics:
- Allergies and allergic reactions (non-emergency)
- Earaches and ear infections
- Minor burns or rashes
- Minor injuries
- Minor sprains
- Respiratory symptoms (coughs, colds, and flu)
